Mom and Son

- Hello Mom, still saving Vietnam ?

MOM: so what do you want to say about our work for Vietnam?
MOM: just say it.
MOM: you can ask me questions,
MOM: and I answer.
Son: How do you think what you're doing will make any different?
MOM: I have to help the people who are oppressed.
MOM: we are people of good will all over the world, and we understand those oppressed people very well.
MOM: we can talk about the injustice to the world, and with all the people with good will in the world, we can make a difference, that's a political front.
MOM: Do you know that the Vietnamese communists are somehow afraid of us now, and that's why they issued the Resolution 36 to deal with Vietnamese overseas.
Son: what is the resolution 36?
MOM: In that resolution, the Vietnamese communist government takes care of the Vietnamese overseas by many means.
MOM: first, they pretend to help us to live peacefully in the countries where we are living (who need them to do that ?), they will talk to the governments where we live if there is something that happens to us (but when the Vietnamese workers they sent to Samoa were mistreated by their employers, they did not say a word, and we, Vietnamese in the US had to help those poor people, by sending money and lawyers there.
MOM: next, they want to bring books to teach our children about Vietnamese culture (do they know about Vietnamese culture, when the people who live under the communists of the North for many years say bad words more often than we do, and they promote the Three No: no family, no country, and no religion).
MOM: if they want to teach our children the communist culture, of course we don't want to have anything to do with them.
MOM: the reason why they issued that Resolution 36 is that they were afraid of our power.
MOM: and you know why we have that power ? Because we say the truth about the communists to the whole world, and the US and the European did not want to give them money.
Son: what money are the US and the European giving to them?
Son: i've never heard of such a thing.
MOM: the reason they try to say that they want to "help" us, is that they want the money from those foreign governments, from the countries that they often cursed as "capitalist countries."
Son: and why would US give them money?
MOM: yes, you don't know and you will know: they want to "aid" those poor countries.
Son: i highly doubt it.
Son: US do not "aid" country that they cant indirectly use
MOM: the US government has many programs to do that, for a very long time:
MOM: USAID
MOM: you know well that the US did help West Germany ?
MOM: and Japan.
MOM: also see this: http://vietnam-on-line.com/anhduong/English/Japan-Vietnam.htm
MOM: HANOI: Japan, Vietnam's biggest aid donor, will link future aid for the communist nation to a series of benchmarks that include respect for human rights and its investment climate.
Son: Hmm, i guess if you can pickup the news about human abuses in Vietnam and send these country the info then it might help.
Son: but normally, i think we have news reporters who do that already.
Son: the Japanese in this article seem to mainly concern about the industry nature that they have in Vietnam.
MOM: Of course my friends and I in the Vietnamese Human Rights Network often did what you said,
MOM: for example this person ( a former prisoner) http://www.fas.harvard.edu/~asiactr/haq/200004/0004a002.htm
MOM: since my friends have connections with the people inside Vietnam,
MOM: and the repressed people have friends who reach us.
Son: Hmm, btw
Son: recently, when my uncle got back from vietnam,
Son: he discover that in the farming rural community in vietnam,
Son: quite a few people own cars like Camry.
Son: vietnam seem to be doing better than before.
MOM: those are powerful people.
Son: they're farmers.
MOM: but they originate from communists.
MOM: or they do business with the commies.
Son: you equat every single well to do vietnamese associate with communist?
Son: you have no proof of that.
MOM: do you know how they can get rich ?
MOM: do you think the hard working people like me and your brother can get rich ?
MOM: the people who get rich are the people who know how to deal with corrupted government officers.
MOM: of course sometimes they got into the prisons, because they don't know how to give money to all the superiors,
MOM: but if they know, then they can do business easily.
Son: all these may be true in some places but you really have no proof that it's true in all places.
Son: all the news I see so far is that
Son: communists place a few people who disrespect them in jail,
Son: hardly torturing them.
MOM: because those are famous people.
MOM: when you are famous, they don't touch you that much.
Son: currently it's going to be very hard for United State to deal with this situation in Vietnam because they clearly have more pressing concerns,
Son: The US government will deal with terrorism in the middle east because it's the most popular subject with its citizen now,
Son: not to mention their business interest lies in the iraq.
MOM: the US has to balance the different interests,
MOM: if not, they lose respect from their own citizens
Son: most US civilians haven't even heard that much about Vietnam.
MOM: they need Vietnam to stop China from expanding their influence.
Son: and they might enlist the communist help if they think it's sufficient.
MOM: but they are pushed by their conscience and the NGO organizations to look at every aspect.
MOM: the NGO's (non governmental organizations) humanitarian orgs often promote freedom and humanity.
MOM: you know in the world there are people of all kinds, some good, some bad,
MOM: some think of themselves, some think of others.
Son: history have shown that US usually serve their business interest before conscience.
MOM: there are people with conscience in the US,
MOM: and they are vocal, people can't ignore them.
MOM: We are there to remind them too,
MOM: that they can't help the VC to oppress our people over there.
Son: The vietnamese communist government is strictly controlling vietnam now,
Son: you cannot change government over night.
MOM: we can gradually change it, or we can change the mentality of Vietnamese people to make them change the regime. Remember the Eastern European and the Russia ?
Son: if you stop the humanitarian aids to vietnam,
Son: ultimately, you will harm the people.
MOM: no, not stopping the "humanitarian aids".
MOM: what we propose is the US stop "non humanitarian aids" if the VC still oppress the people,
MOM: that's in the proposal to give to the House and the Senate to sign.
Son: what are these non humanitarian aids?
MOM: those are the words they use.
MOM: wait,
MOM: i will find the proposal for you to see.
MOM: http://www.fva.org/200312/story02.htm
MOM: do you know about the carot and the baton (stick) ?
MOM: that's what foreign governemts have to use to the VC.
