released in a government amnesty on 2, February 2005. A member of the
Unified Buddhist Church of Vietnam (UBCV), former Superior monk of Vinh
Binh Pagoda in Bac Lieu, southern Vietnam, Thich Thien Minh was detained
by Communist Vietnam for 26 years for his support of the banned UBCV. He
spent long terms in solitary confinement, chained by the hands and feet,
because of his protests against the ill-treatment and poor detention

Do Thanh Cong democracy activist returned

Vietnamese Communist authorities have "released" and deported a US
democracy activist after holding him for more than a month, state media
and the US embassy said Thursday night. The release of Do Thanh Cong,
47, came one day after state-run media accused him of plotting a
"terrorist attack" on the US consulate in Saigon City. However, US
Ambassador in Vietnam has denied this ridiculous accusation. Human
rights groups have said the California-based writer, Demcratic Advocate
for Vietnam was targeted for his internet essays criticizing Vietnam's
communist dictatorship. Born in Vietnam, Do fled communist Vietnam more
than 20 years ago and is a naturalized citizen of the US. He was
arrested August 14 while visiting family in southern Vietnam. Đỗ Thành

Cộng sản VN vu cáo là "khủng bố", và bắt giam không xét xử. Ngay từ đầu
tháng, ông Đại Sứ Mỹ tại Hà nội đă phủ nhận các "bằng chứng" do VC đưa
ra. Được biết ông Đỗ Thành Công đă tuyệt thực từ ngày 1 tháng 9 đến khi
ra khỏi nhà giam. Tuy sức khoẻ suy kém ông vẫn đủ sức ngồi chuyến bay
nhiều giờ trở lại đoàn tụ với gia đ́nh, và xă hội tự do dân chủ. Sau
lưng Đỗ Thành Công vẫn c̣n những, Nguyễn Vũ B́nh, Huỳnh Việt Lang,
Nguyễn Hoàng Long... và rất nhiều người Việt Nam yêu dân chủ khác --
trong cũng như ngoài Việt Nam, trong hay ngoài lao tù cộng sản -- vẫn
tiếp tục con đường vận động để Việt Nam thực sự tự do, dân chủ, công
bằng.
