Dear Sir:

Further to my letter to you dated February 26, 2007 regarding the persecution of Father Nguyen Van Ly, an internationally known religious leader in Vietnam, I’d like to inform you that Father Ly has been sentenced to 8 years in prison in a hastily convened and shabbily conducted trial on March 31. As you’ll see in the following video clip, http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dzk1WmmHoBI, and in the attached photograph, he was forcibly silenced by the security police when he tried to speak.

In view of this blatant violation of Father Ly’s basic human rights on the part of the Vietnamese Communist authorities, I urge that you summon the Vietnamese ambassador to your Department to explain their action.
